What are PDO Threads?

Experience the Art of Subtle Skin Transformation!

PDO Threads are synthetic surgical sutures strategically inserted into the skin to support the natural shape of the face by repositioning sagging tissue. Unlike previous metal threads, these are made from Polydioxanone (PDO), a synthetic absorbable material used in major surgeries like open-heart surgery.

PDO Threads are 100% absorbable, safely dissolving into the body over months after placement.

These sutures feature barbs or thorns, resembling a rose stem, which grip the surrounding skin to create a tighter appearance without any cuts or incisions.

As the material dissolves, the body heals around the sutures, increasing collagen production and resulting in a natural-looking facelift that enhances facial aesthetics for up to a year, with no downtime required.

How does it work?

The PDO thread lift procedure itself involves the implantation of fine, absorbable polydioxanone threads, similar to those which are used in medical suturing, into the subcutaneous layer of the skin using tiny needles.

Their placement causes a series of microinjuries that trigger the body to produce greater amounts of natural collagen and elastin in order to repair the microscopic damage that occurs.

The threads remain in place for around 6 to 8 months, after which time they are absorbed into the body, leaving new collagen in their place.

List of Problems it Solves:

Sagging Skin

PDO Threads lift and firm areas where skin has lost elasticity, such as the face, neck, and jawline.

Wrinkles and Fine Lines

The treatment smooths out wrinkles and fine lines, resulting in a more youthful complexion.

Loss of Volume

PDO Threads restore volume to sunken areas, enhancing facial contours and giving a fuller appearance

Uneven Skin Texture

The procedure improves skin texture by promoting collagen production, leading to smoother, healthier-looking skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all PDO threads the same?

There are several different types of thread that can be used. Which will be recommended for you, will depend on the areas that you are targeting with the treatment and the type of improvement you are hoping to achieve. For example, cog threads are most commonly used to lift sagging tissue around the jaw and neck in order to improve the patient’s profile. Meanwhile, screw threads can be used for plumping and adding volume to deficient areas, such as the cheeks, as well as lifting. Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Carlos Mata, will be able to advise you which PDO threads you will need.

What areas can PDO thread lift be used on?

PDO therapy can be successfully used on various areas of the face including the cheeks, brow, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jawline and neck. It can also be used on the body, arms, thighs and abdomen. Dr. Mata will be able to advise you if PDO thread lifting is a suitable treatment option for the area that you wish to target.

How long does a PDO thread lift procedure take?

Precisely how long a PDO thread lift will take will depend on the area being targeted, but in most instances, it can be carried out in between 45 and 60 minutes. Including preparation and the time following treatment, you can expect the entire appointment to last a maximum of 2 hours.

What side effects can I expect after a PDO thread lift?

A great benefit of a PDO thread lift is that the side effects are minimal. You may notice a little swelling and bruising that lasts for a few days, after which time it should fade. There is no downtime and you can get back to your usual routine right away.
